WATERLOO, IA - June 20, 2011. The Madison Mallards defeated the Waterloo Bucks 7-2 Monday Night, sending the 1,495 fans at Riverfront Stadium home unhappy.

The Mallards got the scoring started in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Jones (Long Island). They then scored three times in the fourth on RBI hits by Justin Scanlon (Michigan State) and Willie Argo (Illinois). Jordan Owen (Tennessee - Martin), Andrew Barna (Davidson), and Travis Parker (St. Louis) all added RBIs in the seventh and eighth innings to account for the remainder of Madison's runs.

As it turns out, Mallards' starter Rusty Shellhorn (Texas Tech) would only need the first run scored by his offense for support. Shellhorn had yet another masterful outing, going six full innings and allowing no runs. Although he walked four, Shellhorn struck out seven and lowered his ERA to 1.17. With the win, his record stands at 3-0.

Taking the loss for the Bucks was Shane Broyles (Seminole State Community College). Broyles gave up four runs, but only one was earned. Through five innings, he gave up eight hits, walked three, and struck out five. His record now stands at 2-1.

Collectively, Waterloo only had five hits, but three came off the bat of Davis Hendrickson (Illinois). Hendrickson went 3-for-5, with all of his hits being singles. Joel Hutter (Dallas Baptist) and Jordan Adams (Central Michigan) had the other two hits for the Bucks.

The Mallards' bullpen was solid yet again. Jonathon Crawford (Florida) and Travis Parker (St. Louis) came on after Shellhorn was taken out, and the duo could not have done better. Combined through three innings of relief work, only three hits were allowed and both runs that were scored by the Bucks were unearned. Waterloo also struck out four times against Crawford and Parker. Monday's game was also Crawford's season debut.

The win keeps the Mallards tied for first place with Eau Claire after the Express knocked off Green Bay Monday.

Game two of the three-game set in Madison's first of two trips to Iowa this season will begin at 6:35 p.m.
