Strong Pitching and 10 Hits Give Gems First Win of Season, 8-2

Klamath Falls OR, June 9, 2013: Gems starter Brandon Horth (Loyola Marymount University) scattered three hits in six innings, striking out four, as his first start of the season propelled the Gems to their first victory of the year, 8-2 over Bellingham on Sunday afternoon at Kiger Stadium. Pacing the Klamath Falls offense was DH Michael Tittle (Fresno City College), whose solo home run, his first of the year, tied the game at 1-1. Five more runs ensued as the Gems outhit the Bells, ten to five. Chet Thompson (University of Portland) chipped in with two hits and three runs scored in the victory.

Bells starter Chris Van Dyke (Oakland University) took the loss as the Bells modest two game win streaked was snapped on the road. Gems improve their season record to 1-1, and the Bells fall to 3-2 on the young season.

Monday June 10th, the Gems play the finale of the series as they host the Bellingham Bells at Kiger Stadium, with first pitch at 6:35 pm.
