Rogues Take Series at Kitsap

SILVERDALE, WA - The Medford Rogues won their first West Coast League series today with a 5-1 victory at Kitsap this afternoon. An 8-hit attack, combined with a complete game thrown by Rogues starter Bret DeRooy moved Medford to 3-3 on the season. The BlueJackets dropped to 2-4.

The Rogues scored two in the second with the help of one walk by Kitsap starter Ryan Taylor and a single from Brody Weiss. A double by Ryan Teel scored the two runners to make the score 2-0.

Kitsap has three hits in the fourth inning by Daniel Jewett, Alex McKeon and Justin Gheorghe to make the score 2-1.

In the sixth inning RBI's by AJ Balta and Caleb Palensky and an error by the catcher make the score 5-1 In favor of the Rogues.

There would only be two more hits in the game one by Caleb Palensky in the eighth and Ryan Teel in the ninth.

The Rogues had 8 hits with Palensky (2-4) and Teel (2-4) getting multiple hits. Balta and Palensky each had an RBI and Teel had two RBIs.

DeRooy (1-0) got the win with a complete game, giving up one run and four hits and striking out seven. Taylor (0-1) took the loss for Kitsap. With their win today the Rogues won the series against Kitsap and now travel to Victoria for a three game series. Games start tomorrow at 7:05pm.

The West Coast League is an 11-team collegiate wood-bat baseball league composed of the best college players, coaches, facilities and operators in the industry. Ranging from Medford, Oregon north to Kelowna, B.C., the league has operated as the WCL since 2005. In 2012, a league record 57 WCL players were selected in the Major League draft.
