Gwinnett Stripers News Release

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gwinnett Stripers coach, José Mota, who died suddenly last night in the Dominican Republic. Mota spent four seasons in Gwinnett (2014, 2016-18) and 22 seasons as a coach in the Atlanta Braves' minor league system.

He served as an assistant coach with Advanced-A Carolina (2015), Rookie-level Danville (2014) and Single-A Rome (2013), as well as several seasons with the Braves Dominican Summer League affiliate. He played two seasons in the Atlanta system during the 1985-86 seasons, combining to bat .203 (65-for-320) over 113 games.

A native of San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, Mota, 53, leaves behind his wife, Alba, and four children: José Jr., Dayosel, Henry, and Dorismer.

We offer our deepest condolences to José's family and friends.
