FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 10, 2014) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced the signing of 23-year-old goalkeeper David Meves for the 2014 season.

Meves was drafted third overall by MLS Portland Timbers of MLS in the 2013 supplemental draft. He played with the Timbers U23s where he was named to the All-Western Conference Team after recording six shutouts and being ranked among league leaders in both goals-against average (0.85) and fewest goals allowed (11).

"David is a very talented young goalkeeper," said Strikers Head Coach G-nter Kronsteiner. "He is very skilled and handles himself well in the box; he will definitely be of help to us."

The 6-2 goalkeeper finished his college career at Akron University as the NCAA's all-time leader for shutouts with 54 and his goals-against-average of 0.50 is tied for fifth-best on the NCAA's all-time list.
