Strikers Sign Former USL PRO MVP Jose Angulo

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Tuesday, February 10, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers bolstered their attack today with the signing of Colombian-American forward Jose Angulo. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Angulo, 27, joins the Strikers after two seasons with Pittsburgh Riverhounds of USL Pro, the third division of professional soccer in the U.S.

In 2013, Angulo captured four separate individual honors including: the 2013 USL Pro MVP award, the USL Pro Scoring Champion award, and USL Pro All-League First Team recognition. The forward also shared the USL Pro Golden Boot for his league-leading tally of 15 goals which tied Dom Dwyer's single-season goalscoring record.

"A former MLS player and USL Pro MVP, Jose has proven to be a prolific goalscorer in U.S. professional soccer," Strikers General Manager Amaury Nunes said. "He is a powerful forward, a great finisher, and is dangerous around the box."

Prior to joining the Riverhounds, Angulo spent the 2012 season with Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls. The year before he led the Harrisburg City Islanders in scoring with nine goals in the 2011 USL Pro season.

The Clifton, NJ native played high school soccer at St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark. Angulo started his professional career with the New England Revolution in 2009 before suiting up for New Jersey-based USL Premier Development sides Newark Ironbound Express (now Jersey Express) and Central Jersey Spartans, where he scored 10 goals in 11 appearances.
