
Strikers Announce Inaugural Amateur Tournament

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (June 7, 2011) The Fort Lauderdale Strikers announce their inaugural Lightning Tournament. The first round of the tournament will be held June 25th at Fort Lauderdale Stadium. The semi-finals and finals will be held July 30th at Lockhart Stadium.
"It's important that we host tournaments that bring the soccer community together. We're confident that the Lightning Tournament will become an annual event on our calendar," said President Tim Robbie.
The tournament will consist of 12 teams separated into four groups. Teams will play each member of their group once and the winner of the group will move on to the semi-finals on July 30th. The entrance fee for the tournament is $400 and is open to anyone 17 or older. The matches will be 11 vs. 11 with each team allowed up to 18 players on its roster with unlimited substitutions. Each match will consist of two 30-minute halves and a five minute half-time interval.
For entering, each team will receive 36 general admission tickets, valued at $10 each, for the Strikers game against Puerto Rico on June 25th. The winning team will receive a cash prize of $1000 along with being recognized at half-time of the Edmonton game. Additionally the top two players of the tournament will be invited to train with the Strikers for a three day trial. The players will be selected by the Strikers coaching staff.
