Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades pounded out 12 hits en route to an overpowering 11-1 victory Monday night at Dutchess Stadium. With the win, Hudson Valley increased its streak to six games and moved to 5-0 on the six-game homestand. They have outscored their opponents 29-2 over the last three games.
The Renegades started the scoring in the first inning. Shortstop Ford Proctor led off with a walk and stood at second when catcher Chris Betts delivered a two-out single to score Proctor and give Hudson Valley a 1-0 lead. Betts would come up big again in the third when he roped a ground-rule double to right with two out to score second baseman Tyler Frank from second and up the Renegades lead to 2-0.
Hudson Valley took control of the game when they plated three more runs in the fourth. With runners at the corners and one away, rightfielder Marvin Malone smacked a two-run triple to right, then scored himself on a sacrifice fly to center from Jake Stone to make the score 5-0. They would add another run in the fifth on an infield RBI single to third by centerfielder Michael Smith to up the count to 6-0.
The home team added another run in the seventh when third baseman Adrian Rondon lined a single to score Betts from second with two away to put Hudson Valley up seven. In the eighth, the Renegades plated their final three runs on a solo homerun by Malone (1), as bases-loaded walk to first baseman Jacson McGowan, and a two-run double to Rondon to put the Renegades up 11-0.
That was more than enough for a Renegades pitching staff that dominated an overwhelmed Connecticut lineup. Starter Miller Hogan made his professional debut by tossing two scoreless innings. He was followed by reliever Jesus Ortiz (1-0) who got the win by firing 3.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Righty Alan Strong was next up and struck out four more in 2.1 frames. Renegades hurlers had 12 strikeouts for the game.
Taking the loss for the Tigers was starting pitcher Carson Lance (1-1) when he gave up six runs, four earned, on six hits in 4.1 innings.
Connecticut's lone run came in the ninth inning as a one-out single to center by catcher Sam McMillan brought in a runner from third to break up the shutout against Renegades stopper B.J. Myers. It ended a 20.1 innings scoreless streak for the Hudson Valley bullpen, which ironically began when Myers fired two scoreless frames in a win over Brooklyn last Wednesday.
Rondon finished 3-4 with a double and three RBI, while Malone had a homer and triple in four at-bats with three RBI and a triple. Betts chipped in by going 3-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Connecticut was led by McMillan who had two of the Tigers' five hits and the team's lone RBI.
The Renegades will finish off their homestand with the finale of their three-game series against the Connecticut Tigers tomorrow. First-pitch slated for 7:05. Right-hander Easton McGee (1-0, 4.50 ERA) will make his Dutchess Stadium debut for Hudson Valley against fellow righty Wilkel Hernandez (0-1, 5.40 ERA) for the Tigers. Tickets can be purchased online at hvrenegades.com or by calling the ticket office at 845-838.
