Glens Falls Dragons News Release

GLENS FALLS, N.Y.-The Glens Falls Dragons (13-11) entered Wednesday night's contest against the Adirondack Trail Blazers (9-13) as the hottest team in the PGCBL, having won six out of their last seven games. The Dragons continued their winning ways as they scored twice in the bottom of the eighth, and held on to defeat the Trail Blazers 4-3.

The Dragons didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard against Adirondack starter Will Jahn (Northeastern). Danny Oliveri (Triton) legged out an infield hit and Mark Powell (Bucknell) walked. Brennan Price (Felician) made his first at bat in Glens Falls a successful one as he singled to drive in Oliveri to make it 1-0. Jake Veith (Tacoma CC) then picked up an RBI with a single to drive in Powell to give the Dragons a two run lead.

Adirondack cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth as they finally got to Glens Falls starter Jake Murray (Rhode Island College). Hunter Thomas (Jefferson CC) walked for the Trail Blazers and came around to score on an RBI double to the left-center field gap by Ryan Dorow (Adrian) to make it 2-1. Adirondack tied the score at two in the sixth when Thomas picked up an RBI on a ground out which brought Evan Alderman (Georgia Southwestern) across home plate.

Glens Falls threatened to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Oliveri smacked a one out double, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Powell then hit a ball sharply into the hole between short and third which looked to be through for an RBI single. Dorow, the Trail Blazer's shortstop however made the defensive gem of the night with an outstanding diving stop, and threw to first for the out, forcing Oliveri to hold at third.

The Dragons took back the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Dylan Robinson (UMASS) reached on a throwing error. David Sarmiento (Post) then singled. Robinson then stole third base, and on the following pitch, Sarmiento stole second. Colby Stratten (Indiana) in his first at bat of the night then nailed an RBI single to left plating Robinson and Sarmiento to make it 4-2.

Adirondack made a game of it in the ninth. Garrett Longhurst (UAlbany) doubled to lead off the frame, and came around to score on a single by pinch-hitter Matt Brown (Birmingham-Southern) to make it 4-3. Glens Falls closer Robert Hardy (Binghamton) then struck out the next three Trail Blazer batters to end the game.

Oliveri was 3 for 4 for Glens Falls while Sarmiento had a pair of safeties for the Dragons.

Alderman was 3 for 4 for Adirondack, while Longhurst added a pair of doubles.
