Great Lakes Storm News Release
Birch Run, MI (December 11, 2004) â The Great Lakes Storm won the game tonight against the Rockford Lightning 112-106 (4.0, 3.0) in overtime to move to 6-5 on the season. Fans saw an exciting matchup between the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. Rockford moves to 4-5 on the season.
After a rather easy win last night at home over the Mayhem, the Storm knew they would need a solid effort tonight against the fast paced Rockford Lightning. Both teams traded baskets in the first quarter and Brant Bailey hit an off balance shot in the lane to win the first quarter at the buzzer 22-20. The Lightning eventually pulled ahead by as many as seven and won the second quarter by one when Greg Stempin's long jumper was ruled a two-pointer. Stempin played great in the third quarter scoring eight points that included a facial dunk plus the free throw that fired up the home crowd. The game seemed out of reach as the Lightning held a six point lead with 1:34 to go in the game. Carson Cunningham made one of two free throws with :13 seconds left in regulation which pushed the Rockford lead to three. After several handoffs Mark Jones took an off balance three and made it to tie the game with three seconds left. Stais Boseman missed a long jumper at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Kasib Powell had six points in the overtime period and the Storm made free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
The Storm's next game is on Sunday, December 12th against the Michigan Mayhem. Tip-off is set for 7:05 at the L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon.
