Steelheads corral the Stampede

Gary, IN: For the second consecutive night the Steelheads played the Idaho Stampede in Idaho. Tonight there was a different outcome as the Steelheads avenged last night's 105-89 loss with a 109-89 victory. This win broke the Stampede's 16 game home winning streak, stretching back to late January of the 2003-2004 season. The Steelheads captured 5 ½ quarter points to run their total to 27.5 on the season.

The Steelheads jumped out to a 37-27 first quarter lead and then captured the second quarter 27-17 to hold a 64-44. The Steelheads managed to miss just four shots in the second quarter. The Steelheads dropped the third quarter 29-23 and tied the final quarter 22-22 to win 109-89.

David Graves led six players in double figures with 20 points. Jemeil Rich had his eighth consecutive double double with 19 points and 10 assists. Darrin Hancock had 18 points for the second consecutive night. Newcomer Daniel Watts led three players in double figures in scoring and rebounds as he had 12 points and 16 rebounds, a Steelheads season high. Shelly Clark had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Lonnie Jones had 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Steelheads shot 53 percent while holding the Stampede to only 39 percent from the field.

The Steelheads have a day off before they take on the Yakima Sun Kings on Monday and Tuesday in Yakima. The Steelheads return to the Genesis Convention Center on Friday, December 17th as they take on the Michigan Mayhem. Any fan who donates an unwrapped toy at the December 17th game will receive a free ticket to the December 31st contest against the Mayhem.
