
Storm Travel to Peoria for Week Eight

Sioux Falls Storm News Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) will travel to Peoria, IL on Saturday, May 7, 2005 to take on the Peoria Rough Riders at the Carver Arena. The Storm make their way into week 8 of the regular season with a 3-3 record after a tough loss last weekend to the undefeated Ft. Wayne Freedom, 34-31. The Rough Riders are currently 2-3 with a loss last weekend to the Tennessee Valley Raptors, 32-39, in Huntsville, AL. Both the Storm and the Rough Riders are currently second in their respected divisions, as both will seek a win to move closer to the number one position.
Storm quarterback, Terrance Bryant, walked away from the game with a concussion but completed two touchdown passes against Ft. Wayne to both Matt Holmlund and Corey Walker. Bryant ended the game with 66 yards off 9-15 passing and one interception, along with 23 yards rushing. Running back Jerry Davis crossed the goal line for a touchdown and had 32 yards from 6 carries. On the defensive side of the ball, USD Alumni, Mark Blackburn led all players with an unbelievable 17.5 tackles. Augustana star, Shannon Poppinga stole the show before the half by returning an interception 37 yards for the TD with only 7 seconds left on the clock, that score put the Storm and Freedom tied at 10 all going into the second half of play. "Poppy" also had 8 total tackles to compliment his big interception. Justin Landis and Trice Crump chipped in with 9 and 8 total tackles for the game. Utility man, James Jones, returned 5 kicks for 123 yards, putting him on top of the league for kick return yards on the year.
The Storms "Thunder Defense" will have their work cut out for them as they face the Rough Riders offense. Leading the way for Peoria is QB, Walter Church, who led his team to 234 total offensive yards in their loss last weekend. Church completed 15 of 26 passes for 209 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jonathan Schoonover will be Church's go to man again, as Schoonover went 135 yards from 7 receptions for 2 touchdowns against the Raptors. Leading the Rough Rider defense last weekend was Jason Vanloo, who had 13 stops and Larry Thompson was right behind with 9 tackles and one breakup.
The Storm's next home game will be Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Sioux Falls Arena against the Evansville Bluecats with a 7:05 PM kickoff. Buffalo Wild Wings will again host the tailgate party which will start at 3:00 PM with live music, food and drink specials, Lightning Girls, Ball Babes, and much, much more.
