Sioux Falls Storm News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Sioux Falls Storm held on to defeat the Louisville Xtreme, 49-43, inside the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday. The Storm improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Xtreme fall to 0-4.

Tonight's matchup between the Louisville Xtreme and the Sioux Falls Storm was a back-and-forth competition. The Xtreme scored the game's first touchdown: on pass from Dalton Oliver to Keyondre Craig. The Storm struck back with a kick return for a touchdown by Nate Chavious. The Xtreme's kicker Vacha was on his game tonight, making a slew of field goals including a 17-yard kick to take a 10-7 lead. That was quickly followed by the Storm's Chase Vinatieri making a 24-yard field goal to knot the score at 10 at the end of the first quarter.

First interception of the game was by the Xtreme's very own Ellis Lankster. The Xtreme drove down the field and earned three points off a Vacha 22-yard field goal. The Storm came back strong with a 34-yard rushing touchdown by Nate Chavious for his second touchdown of the evening. The Storm ended the first half with a 21-yard field goal to take a 20-13 lead heading to the break.

The Storm started the half with a 34-yard rushing touchdown by Tommy Armstrong. The Xtreme returned fire with a passing touchdown from Oliver to Todd Athey. The third quarter ended with the Storm scoring another rushing touchdown-7-yards from Tommy Armstrong. The score at the end of the quarter was 20-34.

The Xtreme came out aggressive at the beginning of the 4th quarter getting a safety off of a bad snap by the Storm's quarterback. The Xtreme struck back with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Oliver Dalton to Todd Athey. The Xtreme then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff leading to an 8-yard touchdown pass from Oliver to Craig. This score put the Xtreme ahead, 35-34. Sioux Falls proceeded to take lots of time off the clock on their next offensive possession to take the lead 42-35 on a goal line wide receiver jet sweep by Brandon Sheperd. It seemed any hopes of an Xtreme comeback were ended when Dalton Oliver threw a pick 6 that was returned by Jordan Baldwin to put the Storm up 49-35 lead with a little over a minute left.

With 26 ticks left on the clock, Todd Athey hauled in another touchdown catch from Oliver, but it proved too little, too late as the game ended with a Sioux Falls kneel down. Final score, Sioux Falls 49 - Louisville 43.

Sioux Falls will matchup with the Bismarck Bucks in the IFL Game of the Week on Saturday, June 5, at 6:05 p.m. CT live on Stadium. The Xtreme will hit the road in search of their first win as they take on the Massachusetts Pirates on Saturday, June 5, at 6:05 p.m. CT.
