Storm Sign First Overall Selection Ryan Merkley

The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced today that Ryan Merkley has agreed to terms on a Standard Player Agreement with the team.

Merkley was named GTHL Player of the Year after leading the Jr. Canadiens in scoring with 44 points including seven goals and 37 assists in 33 regular season games.As team captain, Merkley produced more than a point -per-game from the blueline this season leading the Jr. Canadiens in scoring. The Mississauga native represented Canada at the Youth Olympic Games, helping take home silver recording 5 points in 6 games. He also led the Jr. Canadiens to a victory at the 2015 Toronto Marlboros Holiday Classic Tournament in Toronto and recorded 4 points in 6 games at the 2016 OHL Cup.

The 16 year old most recently won the OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener with Team GTHL recording one assist in the gold medal game. Finishing the tournament with 8 points (1 goal and 7 assists), the 16 year old had the most assists of any player in the tournament, led all defensive scorers in points and finished tied for third in scoring among all participants.
