Storm drops Monday matinee

Birch Run, MI (March 7, 2005) – The Great Lakes Storm lost today against the Michigan Mayhem 111-103 (5.0, 2.0) to move to 27-19 on the season. This was the second day game of the season and over 1,600+ students enjoyed an exciting contest between the interstate rivals. The Mayhem played spoilers as they improved to 18-29. The Storm needed just 6.0 quarter points to lock up the top seed in the Eastern Conference, and will now have a chance to clinch at home against their first round playoff opponent, the Rockford Lightning, on Wednesday.

The Storm had one of their better crowds of the season as 1,600+ students from the surrounding area were in attendance to enjoy a game along with some fire and police safety demonstrations. The students were not disappointed as they saw an exciting game that went down to the final minute. The Mayhem came out on fire as they won the first quarter 38-26 behind 15 points from Sam Mack. The Mayhem led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter, but the Storm went on a run and cut the lead to seven points as they went into halftime trailing 60-53. The Storm won the quarter 27-22. The Storm finally tied the game up at 70 a piece halfway through the third quarter. The Storm went into the final quarter leading 82-79, also winning the quarter 29-19. The Storm pushed the lead to 10 points with just under five minutes to go and appeared to be on their way to an easy victory. Costly turnovers and big plays by the Mayhem down the stretch helped them win their first game at the Birch Run Expo Center in five tries as they took the final quarter 32-21. The Storm's next game is on Wednesday, March 9th at home against the Rockford Lightning. Tip-off is set for 7:05 at the Birch Run Expo Center.

Willie Simms 19 points, 8 rebounds

MAYHEM: Sam Mack 41 points, 5-for-10 3-pointers

Darrick Martin 18 points, 12 assists
