Dabbert and Edwards earn Player of the Week honors

Boise, ID (March 7, 2005) — The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Great Lakes Storm center Joe Dabbert was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, while Sioux Falls Skyforce forward Corsley Edwards was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the week of February 27 through March 5.

Dabbert earned Great Lakes' eighth Player of the Week award this season after posting 26.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game after replacing center Jackie Butler, who was called-up to the New York Knicks on Sunday, February 27. He also added 1.0 assist and 1.0 blocked shot per contest, while shooting 67.0 percent (24 of 36) from the floor, 80.0 percent (4 of 5) from the free-throw line, and 33.3 percent (1 of 3) from behind the three-point line.

In a 123-108 (7-0) victory over the Michigan Mayhem on February 28, Dabbert posted a season-high 33 points and 13 rebounds on 14 of 18 shooting from the floor. Two nights later, the rookie from Creighton added 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Storm to a 118-113 (5-2) victory over the Gary Steelheads.

Sioux Falls Skyforce forward Corsley Edwards earned his first weekly award of the season after he posted 20.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest as the Skyforce finished the week with a 2-1 record and clinched a spot in the 2005 CBA Playoffs. He also added 1.0 assist and 1.0 blocked shot per game, while shooting 57.1 percent (20 of 35) from the floor and 88.0 percent (22 of 25) from the free-throw line. In a 131-106 (6-1) victory over Western Conference-leading Dakota on March 3, Edwards posted 18 points, 12 rebounds and two assists as the Skyforce clinched their first playoff spot in three seasons. Two nights later he added 24 points and 15 rebounds as Sioux Falls defeated the Rockford Lightning 127-119 (5.5-1.5).

On the season, the Central Connecticut alum is averaging 17.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest in 14 games played (four started) for the Skyforce. After the first four games of the season, he received a call-up to the NBA's New Orleans Hornets on December 4. He averaged 2.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 10 games played with the Hornets before returning to the Skyforce on February 14.

Other players receiving consideration were Michigan's Charles Gaines (25.7 ppg, 11.3 rpg), Gary's Jemeil Rich (27.0 ppg, 10.0 apg), Rockford's Marshall Phillips (20.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg), Dakota's Maurice Baker (26.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg), and Idaho's Sam Clancy (25.0 ppg, 13.0 rpg).
