Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Green Bay, WI - Despite some big plays and a valiant effort, the Green Bay Blizzard couldn't stop the perfect Sioux Falls Storm Saturday night on Aurora BayCare Field at the Resch Center as the home Blizzard fell 78-47.

It was the second game of a back-to-back series for the teams, which saw Sioux Falls win both contests. The Blizzard (0-6) will return home to face the Tri-Cities Fever at home next week, while the Storm (6-0) face the Wyoming Cavalry in Sioux Falls.

The mood was high for 5,569 fans in attendance many of who were charged up and looking forward to an electric matchup in celebration of Youth Jersey Night. The Blizzard also held a ceremony honoring former standout B.J. Hill at halftime, and retired the former defensive back's number.

The Blizzard gave the fans something to cheer about early on by scoring on their first drive of the game. Quarterback Nate Wara led the Blizzard on a 23-yard drive capped off by a touchdown run from running back Lucien Walker.

The Storm struck quickly though as they responded with a touchdown one minute later. Sioux Falls dominated the rest of the half as they scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter help the team extend their lead to 33 points in the final minute of the second quarter.

The first half wasn't over yet though, and as the seconds wound down Wara tossed an underhand touchdown pass to Walker. After completing the two-point conversion, Green Bay went into halftime trailing Sioux Falls 42-17.

Sioux Falls quarterback Chris Dixon opened the second half with an 18-yard touchdown pass to receiver Tory Harrison, and the two teams traded touchdowns for the rest of the quarter. Walker and Wara each had touchdown runs for the Blizzard, and Green Bay defensive back Terry Carter had a big interception toward the end of the quarter. Heading into the fourth, the Blizzard trailed 54 to 31, but had some momentum on their side.

Green Bay couldn't keep the momentum going though, and Sioux Falls pulled away in the fourth quarter. Dixon tossed two more touchdown passes, including a 43-yard strike on third down. Each team had a couple more late-game touchdowns, including a big 46 yard yard catch and run by Blizzard WR/DB Alexander McCray as time expired. The Storm held on to a 78-47 victory.

Blizzard quarterback Nate Wara had a tough time getting comfortable in the pocket due to the Storm pass rush, but still passed for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Lucien Walker rushed for only 24 yards but he stood out on offense by scoring three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. On defense DB Terry Carter had five tackles and an interception

The Storm were led by QB Chris Dixon who completed 19-27 passes for 208 yards and eight touchdowns. WR Jeremiah Oates had a strong night as he caught five passes for 65 yards and four touchdowns. LB Tyler Knight led the defense with 17 tackles.

The Blizzard return to Aurora BayCare Field next Saturday April 19 to take on the Tri-Cities Fever. April 19 is Youth Receiver Glove Night where the first 600 youth 10 and under will receive a free pair of receiver gloves sponsored by Saranac Gloves. Also every youth 14 and under will receiver a Giant Team Poster.
