Storm Defeated by Stampede 4-2

Tri-City Storm News Release


Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm was defeated by the Sioux Falls Stampede by a final score of 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the Viaero Center. Gavin Brindley and Carter Mazur scored Tri-City's goals in the loss. The Storm return to action on Saturday in a home game against the Fargo Force for "Concrete Cares" weekend. Gavin Brindley gave Tri-City a 1-0 lead at the 5:54 mark of the 1st period. Brindley's goal was his seventh of the season and was assisted by Cole O'Hara. O'Hara's assist was his eleventh of the year. Thirty-six seconds later, Brent Johnson tied the game at 1-1 for Sioux Falls. Johnson's goal was assisted by Dante Fantauzzi and Reid Pabich. With just over two minutes left to play in the 1st period Luke Toporowski netted his eighth goal of the season to give the Stampede a 2-1 lead. The goal by Toporowski was assisted by Daniel Russell. Despite being outshot 13-9 in the 1st period, Sioux Falls carried a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period. No goals were scored in the 2nd period and the game entered the 3rd period with Sioux Falls leading by one goal. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 12-3 in the 2nd period.

Carter Mazur netted his eleventh goal of the year at 1:17 of the 3rd period to tie Sunday's game at 2-2. Hunter Strand recorded his team-leading sixteenth assist on the scoring play. Less than a minute later, Reid Pabich scored his seventh goal of the season for Sioux Falls to give the Stampede a 3-2 lead in the game. Pabich's goal was scored at 2:13 of the 3rd period and was assisted by Ean Somoza. At 18:44 of the 3rd period, Brent Johnson scored his second goal of the night and eleventh goal of the season to seal the 4-2 victory for the Stampede. Johnson's goal was scored into an empty net. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 14-8 in the 3rd period and 39-20 in the game.

Todd Scott recorded the loss in goal for the Storm after making 16 saves on 19 Stampede shots. Tri-City dropped to 17-11-1-1 in the loss. The Storm now holds an 8-4-1-0 record in home games played at the Viaero Center this season. Tri-City has five games remaining in the current eight-game homestand.
