KEARNEY - Nebraska's Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League announced today that they have made a trade. Forward Mike Cichy has been traded to the Indiana Ice for a 2009 1st round draft pick and future considerations. The trade comes one day after Cichy was selected to play in the 2009 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game on Wednesday, February 4th in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Cichy, a native on New Hartford, Connecticut, was the Storm's Captain and was leading the team in points with 29. Cichy was also tied for the team-lead in goals with 10 and was also leading the team in assists with 19. Cichy has recorded 26 career goals and tallied 48 assists in his Storm career.
"We needed to make a major shake-up. Trading one of the best players in the league is a major shake-up. It allows us to look into and take care of the future in a major way. We wish Mike the best with this opportunity to advance his hockey career and in his future," head coach Tom Rudrud said.
Cichy helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge that was held in Camrose, Alberta, Canada on November 2-9. Cichy was the MVP of the tournament by recording 10 points on five goals and five assists. Along with the honor of being the MVP, Cichy was also named to the six-player All-Star Team.
