Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm has announced that Dan and Dustyna Maynard have been named the team's Billet Family of the Year for the 2020-2021 season. This was Dan and Dustyna's first year of billeting for the Storm.
The Tri-City Storm billet program matches players with host families during the hockey season. USHL players are in the 16-20 age range and need a "home away from home" when playing for the Storm each season. These families provide each player with meals, transportation, and tremendous support throughout the year. Many have built lifelong relationships with Storm players who have moved on to play collegiate and professional hockey.
This year, Dan and Dustyna Maynard, along with their daughter Maddie, hosted eight different players over the course of an unprecedented USHL season. The most recent player hosted by the Maynard family was goaltender Chase Clark.
"Most of our billets start out as strangers with only their love for hockey and a willingness to help others by bringing them together. After welcoming these young men into their homes and hearts, our billets have become a family. The Storm organization is blessed to have a great group of billets." - Housing Coordinator Scott White
"In an especially trying year with the pandemic and extra safety precautions for our players, our billet families have played such a key part in a successful 2020-21 USHL season. All of our billet families for all of our teams this year did an outstanding job, and we cannot thank them enough, but we are again excited to give our Clubs the opportunity to highlight specific families that they feel went above and beyond in the duties that we ask of them every season." - USHL President & Commissioner Tom Garrity
Anyone who wishes to learn more about becoming a billet family for the Tri-City Storm is asked to contact Storm Housing Coordinator Scott White at housing@stormhockey.com for more information about the billet family process. #StormAhead
