Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - With the 2021 Clark Cup on the line, the best-of-five championship series between the Chicago Steel and Fargo Force shift to North Dakota this weekend for Game 3 on Friday, May 21 at 7:05 pm CT and Game 4 on Saturday, May 22 at 6:05 pm CT. Both contests will be played at Scheels Arena in Fargo.

With the series currently tied at one game apiece, the Clark Cup could be won by either team this weekend. If a winner-take-all fifth game is necessary, it would be held at Fox Valley Ice Arena on Tuesday, May 25 at 7:05 pm CT.

The clubs split Games 1 & 2 this past weekend at Fox Valley Ice Arena with the Force taking a 3-0 victory in Game 1 on May 14 and the Steel scoring a 4-1 win to even the series on May 15.

Fargo enjoyed goals from Kyle Smolen, Jack Peart and Aaron Huglen in Game 1 while netminder Andrew Miller stopped all 20 shots faced, recording his second consecutive shutout victory of the postseason.

The following night, Miler's shutout streak was halted at 149:41 over four games when Steel rookie Adam Fantilli popped the back of the net just a minute into Game 2 action. Force forward Austin Wong netted the lone goal for Fargo in the loss before Adam Robbins got his stick on puck that he re-directed past Miller for the eventual game-winning goal. Matt Coronato and Erik Middendorf added empty-netters for the Steel as Simon Latkoczy turned away 29 shots between the Steel pipes.

This postseason, Coronato is the only skater to reach double-digits in points with seven goals and three helpers in six games. Fargo forward Tristan Broz ranks second with nine points (3G, 6A) in seven games played.

Chicago has not made the trip to Scheels Arena since a two-game set last season on Oct. 25 & 26, 2019. The Steel swept a two-game weekend series with a 3-1 win on Oct. 25 and a 7-4 victory the following night.

Chicago forward Sean Farrell tallied a three-point night (1G, 2A) in the win on Oct. 26 and Coronato picked up a helper in both matchups. Dawson Pasternak registered a helper in the win on Oct. 25. Force forwards Broz and Mason Salquist both reached the back of the net in the 7-4 loss against the Steel on Oct. 26.

Chicago was 17-6-3-1 on the road during the regular season and won its only road playoff game to date, 5-4 over the Muskegon Lumberjacks in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final on May 8. The Steel put together back-to-back victories on consecutive nights in road games on three separate occasions during the 2020-2021 regular season.

Fargo finished 16-11-0-0 at home during the regular season and defeated Sioux City 2-0 in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final on May 8, its only home playoff game to date. The Force charted two straight wins on home ice in as many days in four occurrences this year.
