Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Danil Gushchin has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks.
Gushchin finished this season with 64 points, and broke Lumberjacks records for most points, goals, and assists in a career during 2020-2021. The star Russian played three seasons in Muskegon, scoring 70 goals and adding 77 assists (147 points) in 139 games. Gushchin's mark of 1.058 points per game trails only Cameron Berg's number of 1.060 among Jacks who played more than one season in Muskegon. The Russian's 64 points this year tied him for the third-most ever scored by a Lumberjack in a single season.
"Muskegon is like my second home," said Gushchin, who did not speak any english when he arrived in 2018. "Every coach and every teammate helped me, and I appreciate them all very much. I have to say thank you to them all."
"All three years have been very good," said Gushchin. "I can't pick one memory that is the best; we had three great teams and two chances to win the Clark Cup, which would have been the greatest memory. Even though we fell short, Muskegon is a second home to me and I have made great memories here."
Gushchin was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the third round (76th overall) of the 2020 NHL draft, becoming the fifth-highest drafted Lumberjack in franchise history.
Lumberjacks fans will remember Gushchin as one of the greatest Jacks of all time, well known for his incredible ability to make dazzling plays on the ice. Highlighted by his lacrosse-style "Svechnikov" goal this season, Gushchin's highlights will be played inside Mercy Health Arena for many seasons to come.
