Daytona Beach, FL - Winners of seven-straight games, the Daytona Tortugas had no answer for Charlotte Stone Crabs starting pitcher Chih-Wei Hu (W, 1-0), who led his team to a 1-0 victory and a 1-0 lead in the Florida State League Championship Series on Thursday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

First pitch for Game 2 and "Thirsty Friday" is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at The Jack as the Tortugas play their final home game of 2015. Charlotte has home field for Game 3, as well as Games 4-5 if necessary.

Hu, a 21-year-old from Taichung, Taiwan tossed a career-high eight shutout innings, allowing just five singles and one walk while striking out nine. Jordan Harrison (S, 1) handled a flawless ninth inning to close it out.

Daytona's biggest threat came in the sixth, when C Joe Hudson reached third base after a leadoff single and two groundouts. Hu punched out RF Sebastian Elizalde to end the frame. Hudson would be the only Tortugas runner to advance past first base, and their only batter with more than one hit.

Granden Goetzman sparked a rally with a leadoff single and a steal in the second, and eventually scored the game's lone run on a two-out RBI double from Justin Williams. Hu managed to outduel Florida State League Full-Season All-Star RHP Jackson Stephens (L, 0-1), who surrendered just the one run over seven five-hit innings.

Daytona stranded leadoff baserunners in five of their first seven frames. Hu induced two double plays, and collected seven of his nine strikeouts with runners on base. Despite the loss, the Tortugas pitching staff continues to impress. Including Thursday's contest, Daytona has held opponents to just three total runs in its last six games, and the Tortugas three playoff starters (LHP Amir Garrett, RHP Nick Traviesoand Stephens) have combined to allow just two runs in 21 postseason innings.

LHP Seth Varner (4-4, 2.97 ERA) entered the playoffs on a 19-inning scoreless streak, and he'll get the start for Game 2 against RHP Buddy Borden (9-7, 2.97 ERA) on "Thirsty Friday" at The Jack.
