PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Charlotte Stone Crabs defeated the St. Lucie Mets 9-3 on Tuesday at Charlotte Sports Park.

The Mets led 2-0 entering the bottom of the third inning, but the Stone Crabs took charge from there by scoring seven unanswered runs. Charlotte scored four in the bottom of the third alone and never looked back.

Wander Franco, baseball's No. 1 overall prospect, gave the Crabs the lead for good with a two-run double off of Luc Rennie in the third that put Charlotte up 3-2. Franco went 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI a walk and a run.

Charlotte used an opener with Simon Rosenblum-Larson, normally a reliever, pitching the first 2.1 innings. Regularly scheduled starter Shane McClanahan took over with one out in the third and allowed two inherited runs, but he did not give up an earned run of his own over 4.2 innings. He was credited with the win.

Jacob Zanon gave the Mets their 2-0 lead with a two-out, two-run double in the third inning.

Rennie retired the first six batters he faced but threw over 40 pitches in the third and faced all nine batters in the order. He allowed four runs and four hits in three total innings to get the loss.

Mets first baseman Jeremy Vasquez went 2 for 4 with a double and a single to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

The Mets (41-40, 9-6) and Stone Crabs (45-35, 10-4) play the rubber game of their series at Charlotte Sports Park on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
