Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Charlotte Stone Crabs used a pair of big innings to blow out the Florida Fire Frogs 11-2 Tuesday at Osceola County Stadium.
The game was completed in the middle of the seventh due to rain. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed. The teams will make it up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m.
After a three-day break, the Stone Crabs (51-46, 17-13) didn't waste any time getting the bats going against Florida (43-54, 14-17) starter Tucker Davidson (6-8). Lucius Fox dropped a double down the right field line before Josh Lowe shot a single into left to move Fox to third. After a hit by pitch loaded the bases, Jesus Sanchez drove home two with a single to center to make it 2-0 Charlotte. Rene Pinto then went the other way with a single to extend the lead to 3-0. After a walk, Jermaine Palacios made it 4-0 by launching a sacrifice fly to deep center.
After Braxton Davidson delivered a homer in the third to make it 4-2, the Stone Crabs' offense went back to work in the fourth. After Charlotte loaded the bases with nobody out, Lowe plated a pair on a single to left to make it 6-2. The next batter was Robbie Tenerowicz , who clobbered a two-run double to center to extend the lead to 8-2. Tenerowicz eventually scored on an error before Palacios drove home another run with a double to cap the inning at 10-2.
The Stone Crabs tacked on another run in the sixth on a Jake Fraley single to make it 11-2.
Rays' rehabber Jonny Venters worked a scoreless first inning before Jose Mujica (1-0) went 3.2 innings in relief to earn the win. Mujica surrendered two runs on three hits while fanning two. Left-hander Hunter Schryver worked 1.1 frames of scoreless baseball.
The Stone Crabs will go for the series win Wednesday, with Brendan McKay (2-2, 4.63) and Josh Fleming (0-1, 4.50) each scheduled to pitch against Ian Anderson (2-5, 2.85) and Jon Kennedy (5-4, 2.25) of the Fire Frogs. Coverage starts at 10:45 a.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
