Stockton, Calif. - On Saturday, August 24, the Stockton Kings along with their NBA parent organization, the Sacramento Kings, will team up with City of Stockton and Raley's to plant a ROOT Garden at Van Buskirk Community Center in South Stockton. The garden will provide fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers to an area that is considered a "food desert."

"We are proud to partner with Raley's to bring this garden and fresh food options to South Stockton," said Stockton Kings Vice President of Business Operations Dustin Toms. "The Stockton Kings are committed to providing the community with opportunities to learn about nutrition and what it means to live a healthy lifestyle."

"Health, sustainability, and wellness are three priorities of the Sacramento Kings organization," said Sacramento Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart. "We are excited to extend our impact throughout the San Joaquin community with our G League team bringing fresh fruit and vegetables to the Van Buskirk Community Center."

Members of the after-school and senior programs at Van Buskirk Community Center will maintain the garden.

"Raley's is committed to growing the next generation of healthy eaters," said Raley's Community Relations and Executive Director of Food for Families Rebecca Whitman. "We're proud to partner with the Stockton Kings in helping educate kids and adults on where their food comes from while supporting the local community."

The garden will be planted during a fun-filled event at Van Buskirk Community Center, including a free, one-hour basketball clinic for kids ages 6- 14 hosted by Stockton Kings coaching and front office staff and planting of the garden with City of Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs. Fans who volunteer will have the opportunity to win tickets to Stockton Kings opening night and meet Stockton Kings personalities.

In 2016, the Sacramento Kings and Raley's announced a new partnership creating a new garden program that would serve communities from the Central Valley to Northern Nevada. Through their efforts, they have assisted thousands with fresh, locally sourced produce while also growing the next generation of healthy eaters. The Van Buskirk Community Center garden will be the first ROOT garden planted in Stockton and the eighth Garden established by the Sacramento Kings organization.
