June 4, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today an agreement between the team and the City of North Charleston that extended the lease at the North Charleston Coliseum four years. The lease will now continue through 2015.
"We are very proud to call the North Charleston Coliseum home and thankful to Mayor Summey and the City of North Charleston for their help in getting this deal done," said President Darren Abbott. "We are excited about the future of hockey in this community; this new agreement ensures that we will be here for the long term."
The Stingrays have called the North Charleston Coliseum home since their first season in 1993. In 15 seasons, the Stingrays have played 534 regular season games at the Coliseum, compiling a record of 327-137-70, drawing almost 3.5 million fans, and consistently averaging over 5,000 fans per game.
In other news, the Stingrays unveiled a new logo for the upcoming season. The logo, designed by the Joe Bosack Graphic Design Co. from Pottsville, PA, represents a more modern, sleek and realistic representation of a Stingray while creating a brand that is instantly recognizable throughout Charleston and the surrounding areas as well as the markets the team plays in.
In addition, two alternate logos have been created to call out the team's affiliation with both the State of South Carolina and the Low Country specifically. The first alternate logo depicts the state flag wrapped in the shape of an S and the second being a shield design prominently featuring the famed Ravenel Bridge.
"After an exciting year of hockey, we are very pleased to be going into the 08/09 season with our new look," said Todd Merton, Merchandising Manager. "I'm confident that not only will our fans be proud to wear the new logo in their communities but our players will be proud to wear it on the ice. I would like to thank Joe Bosack and his staff for helping to create a brand that captures the spirit and intensity of the team that Coach Bednar is sure to put together for the upcoming season."
The Stingrays begin their 2008-09 home season on Saturday, Oct. 18 against the Augusta Lynx. Don't miss any of the fast-paced, hard-hitting action; purchase your Season Tickets today!
