Falcons Mourn Death Of Mike Mathers

FRESNO, CALIF. - The Fresno Falcons are saddened to announce the death of former player Mike Mathers, who passed away on Sunday, June 1 at his home near Edmonton, Alberta.

Mathers played eight seasons for the Falcons, appearing in 379 games from 1996 through 2004. He tallied 347 points in a Falcons sweater, and was part of the 2002 squad that captured the West Coast Hockey League Taylor Cup championship. Mathers assisted on Kris Porter's cup-clinching goal in double overtime of game six at Idaho. He retired following the Falcons first ECHL season in 2003-2004 when he scored eight points in 26 games.

"The entire Falcons organization is saddened to learn of Mike's passing," Falcons CEO John Tull said. "He was an integral part of our team for eight years, and was well-respected in the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time."
