SECOND SEASON SUB-PLOTS

The South Carolina Stingrays prepare for Game Four of their best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series against the Gwinnett Gladiators Sunday, April 8 at 2:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Stingrays defeated the Gladiators 4-3 in quadruple overtime and the second-longest game in ECHL history Friday night and Saturday morning in Game Three at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Defenseman Zach Tarkir buried the game-winning goal at 4:19 of the fourth overtime and goaltender Rob Madore made 54 saves. From start to finish, the game took 124 minutes and 19 seconds, finishing second in league history behind the Elmira Jackals and Trenton Titans contest played on April 10, 2009 and ending with 126:10 played. The Stingrays finished the 2011-12 regular season fourth in the South Division and seventh in the Eastern Conference with a record of 37-28-4-3 (81 pts). The Gladiators ended the season first in the South Division and second in the Eastern Conference with a 41-20-7-4 (93 pts) record. The Stingrays enter the playoffs for the 18th time in 19 seasons. Their 18 playoff appearances are the most ever in the ECHL. The Stingrays are tied for first in the ECHL with three Kelly Cup championships (1997, 2001, 2009) (Hampton Roads Admirals (1991, 1992, 1998) The Stingrays lead the ECHL with 151 postseason games played, 82 playoff wins, most home playoff wins (52), and most playoff wins in one year (16, 2009). In 15 games against the Gladiators this season, the Stingrays are 9-6-0-0.
