Mississippi Miracles News Release
Greenville, MS. Andy Stoglin, Head Coach of the ABA Mississippi Stingers professional basketball team scheduled to begin play in November, today announced that the team would host the inaugural "Aaron E. Henry Basketball Classic" on Saturday, December 4th. According to Coach Stoglin, "We are pleased and proud to be a part of this historic event and look forward to matching up with the Gwinnett Gwizzlies at the Coahoma Junior College in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The game will be set for 7PM."
The late Dr. Aaron E. Henry was the first chairman of the Freedom Democratic Party, served as a Mississippi state legislator for 15 years and Mississippi State Conference NAACP president for over 30 years. He was also a well known pharmacist in his hometown of Clarksdale and was responsible for breaking the color barrier in televisiion advertising and minority ownership when he sued WLBT-TV3 for refusing his advertisements when he ran for governor. He won the suit and forced minority ownership of the television station which he purchased. Other Aaron E. Henry Basketball Classic activities scheduled for December 4 include a Ministers' Prayer Breakfast, Health Fair and Pre-Game Concert as well as a salute to Vivian M. Presley, President of Coahoma Junior College. For more information, email Alice at jadvocat@aol.com or visit www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
