Willmar Stingers News Release
WILLMAR, MN - The Willmar Stingers lost to the St. Cloud Rox tonight, 11-4.
The Stingers entered the second home-and-home series against the Rox looking to make up ground in the Great Plains West. Willmar's loss now puts them 4.5 games behind St. Cloud at the top of the sub-division.
The Rox's bats wasted no time as designated hitter Charlie Condon sent a three-run home run out in the top of the first. They would go on to add two more runs in the next inning. Condon would end the night hitting two home runs with his next one coming in the fifth.
Willmar's Zac Corbin was able to hit a home run of his own in the bottom of the second making the score 5-2. The Kennesaw State switch hitter was named the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game.
In the middle innings, the Rox found a way to build their lead. St. Cloud was able to score in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings increasing their three-run lead to six.
The Stingers got their third run in the bottom of the sixth when Scott Anderson was able to steal home during a pickle between first and second base.
The Stingers and Rox would both find ways to score in the eighth, however, the game would be out of reach with St. Cloud winning comfortably, 11-4.
Reed Smith would be given the loss giving up seven runs in five-inning, and Johnny Dow would get his first win in his three-run, six-inning performance.
The Stingers travel to St. Cloud tomorrow to try to even the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. tomorrow.
