Sting Secure Season Series with 4-2 Win at Bud Gardens

March 16, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release

The Sarnia Sting travelled down the 402 to Budweiser Gardens where they were ready to face off against the London Knights for the last Battle of the 402 of the regular season.

Coming off a big 4-3 shoot-out win at home against the Kitchener Rangers on Wednesday night, the Sting looked to stay hot as they would face a knights team who had won 6 straight.

It only took 25 seconds for Drake to force a Knights turnover and find the back of the net. After failing to convert on an early Knight's penalty, the Sting made sure to capitalize on the second power-play of the period. Jordan Kyrou would put one through traffic for his 39th goal of the season giving the Sting a 2-0 lead. The boys were buzzing with no shortage of shots leading the that category, 10-2 midway through the first. The scoring didn't stop at two. After a pretty passing play from Michael Pezzetta, Sean Josling showed off a nice forehand-backhand finish to give the Sting a 3-0 lead. After a dominating first period almost tripling the Knights in shots 14-5, the Sting would lead 3-0.

During the second frame, the Sting showed everyone why they had the number one PK in the OHL. With help from Justin Fazio, the Sting would kill off 2 double minors mounting several opportunities of their own. After a back and forth period, Knights Alex Turko found the back of the net to get the Knights on the board. As the buzzer sounded to end the second, the Sting entered the third holding a 3-1 lead.

The Knights began to pressure early in the third but Justin Fazio stood tall making save after save. With less than seven minutes remaining in the third, Knights Tyler Rollo finally solved Fazio to bring the Knights within one. A minute later, Anthony Salinitri restored the two-goal lead after knocking in a rebound on the doorstep. Fazio continued to stand strong the rest of the game stopping 40/42 shots he faced.

Tonight, marked Jordan Kyrou's 250th OHL game, collecting a goal in tonight's win.

The Sting continue the road as they face the Owen Sound Attack tomorrow night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre at 7:30pm.

Dates have been confirmed for Round 1 of the 2018 Sarnia Sting Playoffs although the opponent has yet to be determined. The puck will drop at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena for Game 1- Friday March 23 at 7 PM and Saturday, March 24th at 7 PM. Secure your seats here: ticketing.sarniasting.com.
