
Sting prove to be a tough competitor as Jax lose 12-7

The Sting proved to be too much, as the LumberJax lost their first game 12-7 to the Arizona Sting. It was a hard fought battle, but in the end the Sting came out victorious. Arizona is the team to the beat having been the NLL West Division Champions last year and won over Toronto (NLL Champions 2005) last week.
The LumberJax got the season off to a good start with the first goal of the franchise scored by Peter Morgan early in the 1st quarter. The half continued to be strong with goals from Ryan Powell (assist Adam Bysouth), Mike Hominick, Del Halladay (assist Peter Morgan), and Shawn Cable (assist Del Halladay). The Sting however took the lead going into the second half with a score of 6-5.
The Sting broadened the lead in the Third period scoring three times (Chris Seller, Jonas Derks, and Dan Dawson). Jax player, Mike Hominuck, scored his second goal of the night at the beginning of the fourth period with an assist by Peter Morgan. Craig Conn from the Sting answered that goal only a few minutes after. The Sting furthered their lead as Jonas Derks scored the final goal, bringing the final score to 12-7.
The Jax defense stayed consistent thought the game with goaltender Dallas Eliuk having 37 saves for the game, and Brodie Merrill coming up with nine lose balls. The offense also had three important players of the night Del Halladay (2 goals, 1 assist), Mike Hominuck (2 goals, 1 assist), and Ryan Powell (2 goals).
The inaugural team had a tough first competitor, but they are looking to their future games with a two game home streak starting next Saturday, January 21 against Colorado and then on Saturday, January 28 against Calgary in the Rose Garden.
