San Jose Stealth News Release
Colorado -The San Jose Stealth (1-1) engaged in a defensive battle with division foe the Colorado Mammoth (2-1) and came up on the losing side of the ledger. The game was close until late in the fourth quarter when Colorado pulled away with four early goals.
The game, the front end of a home and home series, was an impressive display of goaltending by both teams. Stealth Goaltender Brandon Miller was very impressive in his season debut, recording 29 saves in the game. He made extraordinary plays all night keeping the game close.
In net for Colorado was Gee Nash, who recorded 35 saves on 42 shots. He was able to hold the Stealth to three goals in the first three quarters, including a scoreless first quarter. The game could have gone either way, but in the end, Colorado made enough big plays to win the game.
The San Jose scoring was lead by a pair of brothers, Curt and Derek Malawsky. Derek had another strong night by scoring three goals, bringing his season total to five. Curt was able to notch three assists as San Jose battled to stay in the game, but never could pull ahead.
Colorado got out to 2-0 lead in the first quarter, on power play goals by Chris Gill and Mike Law. Gee Nash stopped all seven shots he faced in the quarter. San Jose closed to within one at 3-2 prior to halftime as Derek Malawsky and Cam Sedgwick got the Stealth on the board.
With Colorado holding a 5-3 lead through three quarters, the scoring for both teams finally opened up in the fourth. Both teams scored four times in the fourth. Four different Mammoth players, including rookie Dan Carey, scored for Colorado.
The Stealth will be back in action tomorrow night, January 14, as the same two teams conclude the back-to-back series. The Stealth hope to get back in the win column as they play their home opener at HP Pavilion in San Jose.
