July 2, 2002 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York Red Bulls News Release
SECAUCUS, NJ (July 2, 2002) - MetroStars defender Steve Jolley and his wife Pilar today officially launched the Just Jolley Charitable Foundation, designed to raise money for worthy causes on a local and national level while also establishing a scholarship component connected to their alma mater, the College of William and Mary.
As part of the launch, the Foundation is currently auctioning, on eBay, two team-autographed 2002 U.S. World Cup team jerseys, provided by MetroStars teammate Clint Mathis. All proceeds will go towards the various charitable causes that the Just Jolley Charitable Foundation aims to benefit. Bidding will close on Sunday, July 7.
Picking July 2-National Literacy Day-for its launch date was not a coincidence, as the Just Jolley Charitable Foundation will this year benefit on a national level America Scores, a soccer and creative writing program in urban cities across the country. The Jolleys are working with their adopted hometown of Weehawken, NJ and its public library to develop a literacy program that the Foundation will benefit locally.
The Just Jolley Charitable Foundation is legally established in New Jersey as a non-profit organization.
"It's really important to Pilar and I that we entrench ourselves in the communities that support us," said Steve Jolley. "We really learned a huge lesson after last September, especially where we live, about what a how supportive your neighbors and others in the community can really be when you need them most
"Our goal, using whatever resources we are lucky enough to have, is to do our small part to make a difference in our community and others, benefiting causes-especially literacy-that are very special to us."
