Normal CornBelters News Release

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, are proud to announce that first baseman Steve Alexander will return to the CornBelters roster for the 2011 season. Following a six-game road trip to begin their second season, the CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2011 campaign at the Corn Crib on May 27 at 7pm versus the Southern Illinois Miners (CEFCU Opening Night).

Alexander finished the 2010 season with a .249 batting average, 41 runs scored, 13 home runs and 44 RBI. During the June 26 game against the Gateway Grizzlies, Alexander launched two homeruns over left field, one in the first inning and one in the fifth inning, to carry the Belters to a 6-4 victory.

"Steve is a big part of our batting order and when he came back from his injury last season he really put up some good numbers. He was only able to play 76 games, yet he had 13 home runs. We believe he would have had a lot more if not for his broken thumb. We are happy to have him back for the 2011 season," said field manager, Hal Lanier.
