Barrie Colts News Release
The Mississauga Steelheads completed a huge comeback in the third period secured a 5-4 victory for the Fish as they climb up the Eastern Conference standings.
Sunday afternoon in Mississauga was the end of the 2018-19 season for the Barrie Colts who had nothing to play for as they took on the Steelheads. That being said they were in position to play spoiler, because Mississauga was looking to move into the 4th spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Things got off to a great start in this one as a flurry of Barrie goals was the story of the first period.
It started just over a minute in as Aidan Brown put home his 14th of the season on a shot from the point that he tipped in. Luke Bignell and Ryan Suzuki collected assists.
Past the midway point of the period it was more from that line as Ryan Suzuki finished off a tic-tac-toe with Brown and Bignell to net his 25th of the season and hit the 75 point plateau on the year.
Before the period would end, it was rookie Riley Piercey tickling the twine to give the Colts a commanding 3-0 lead after twenty minutes of play. His 3rd of the season was unassisted.
This was the final game of his career for Ben Hawerchuk as he ends his stint with the Barrie Colts playing every game of his career as a member of the Barrie Colts.
The second period came with a little more grit as both teams were exchanging big hits and some knuckles. The period would begin with a big fight and it featured another group of fights late in the period as well.
It looked as if the period was going to fly by without any scoring, but the Fish were able to strike late in the frame to cut the lead to 3-1.
Late in the 3rd the Colts looked to have put things away as Tyson Foerster put home his 10th of the season to make it 4-1.
But it was three straight goals by the Steelheads that tied things up and make things interesting.
Just as things looked like they were going to go to overtime, the Steelheads struck once again netting one in the late stages to secure the 5-4 victory.
