Steelheads Burned by Sun Kings

GARY, Indiana (December 18. 2005) "" The Gary Steelheads lost their first visit to a Western Conference opponent, falling to the Yakama Sun Kings 106-97. It was the seventh straight win for the Sun Kings, the CBA's hottest team.

The Steelheads won the first quarter, 26-24, and trailed by 3 at the half. They regained the lead and built it to as high as 72-65 late in the third quarter, only to see the Sun Kings score the last seven points of the quarter to tie the game. In the fourth quarter, Yakama pulled away for the victory. Gary did win two quarter points in defeat.

The Steelheads were again outrebounded for the 11th time in 13 games. This time the margin was 55-43. 6-foot-4 guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter paced all Steelheads' rebounders with 9 carums. Eric Chatfield paced the Steelheads with 24 points, while Hunter added 21 and Brian Chase tied his CBA career high with 18 points.

The Sun Kings had six players in double figures, lead by Rosell Ellis with 18 and Cheyne Gadson with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. The Sun Kings remain undefeated during the month of December.

The Steelheads move on to the Qwest Center in Boise, Idaho for a Tuesday night meeting with the Idaho Stampede. Gary returns home to the Genesis Center Friday night to meet the defending CBA champion Sioux Falls Skyforce. All children in attendance will receive mini-basketballs, courtesy of the Steelheads.
