Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa. - Following Saturday night's important, 40-37 win over the Green Bay Blizzard, the Quad City Steamwheelers helped raise $8,595 dollars for Genesis Health System by auctioning off the commemorative "Spirit of America" jerseys that the team wore for the first time on the field that night. This was the third straight season in which the team had auctioned off their special uniforms, which featured stars, stripes and a yellow ribbon as well as other symbols of Americana, with the proceeds this year going to Genesis to help in its ongoing fight to provide local residents with the best patient care in the region. Steamwheeler fan favorite Tim Dodge backed up that billing by seeing his jersey sell for $550, $50 more than longtime teammates Corey Brown and Jeff Hewitt. Doug Clark of Bettendorf, a member of the Steamwheelers Fan Club, had the high bid and purchased Dodge's jersey on the evening, despite a sizeable tear near the number of the back of it.

All 20 players who appeared in Saturday night's win over the Blizzard had their jersey's donated to the auction as did injured fullback/linebacker A.J. Novak whose jersey fetched $350 despite the fact that he has been sidelined since June 11 with a season-ending knee injury. His brother Mikey, who was on the 'Wheelers taxi squad on the evening saw his uniform go for $370 in a raffle conducted during the game. Kelly Benhart won the raffle, collecting the one-time-only jersey after purchasing a single raffle ticket for $10.

For a complete list of the auctioned jerseys, and how much they sold for, see the bottom of this release.

The Steamwheelers are back at home this Saturday night when they host the Amarillo Dusters at 7:30 p.m. at OS Field at The MARK of the Quad Cities in their home regular season finale. The 'Wheelers can jump into fourth place in the conference with a win by 10 points or more over the Dusters and an Oklahoma City loss to Louisville that night. If that happens, Quad City will be in line to host a first round playoff game for the third straight season, going into the final two weeks of the year. Following this game, the Steamwheelers will host their first-ever helmet auction, while also auctioning off their home game jerseys to support Trinity Health System. Tickets for this game are on sale now. To purchase group tickets or for more information about the Steamwheelers, call the Steamwheelers office at (563) 324-4888 or toll free at 1-866-STEAMTIX.
