Pioneers set for rematch with Firecats

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will travel to Estero, FL to face the 2004 Arena Cup Champion Florida Firecats in the Germain Arena on Saturday, July 16th.
The Pioneers faced the Firecats in the American Conference Championship game last August at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The lead changed hands several times throughout the coarse of the game. Ultimately, Florida held off Wilkes-Barre's offense to claim the American Conference title with a final score of 41-31.
Now that the Pioneers have clinched a playoff spot for the 2005 season, every one of the team's remaining three games is crucial in claiming a higher seed. Florida has already won their division and is seeded second in the American Conference behind the overall number 1 ranked Manchester Wolves.
Florida comes into this week's game with two consecutive wins under its belt. Last week, Florida defeated the Arkansas Twisters in Estero 50-41. Quarterback Chris Wallace and FB/LB Chris Morant were voted Offensive Player and Ironman of the game, respectively.
The Pioneers squared off against the No. 1 ranked Manchester Wolves in week 15. The Wolves took a commanding lead by the end of the first quarter and subsequently handed the Pioneers a devastating 63-36 defeat. "They played like the top-ranked team," Moss said of the loss. "They're going to be hard to beat in the playoffs. Hopefully we'll see them again."
The Pioneers return home to host the Albany Conquest on July 23rd at the Wachovia Arena. Pioneers single game and group tickets are now on sale.
