Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

After a long flight to the west coast and Bakersfield, California, the Quad City Steamwheelers defeated the 1-2 Blitz by a final score of 37-34. The next morning they were set to hop on a bus two hours to Los Angeles Airport. After battling the lines and security at the airport, the jumped onto a plane to Minneapolis, Minnesota (approx. three hours). After arriving in Minneapolis, the boys sat around for an hour before boarding the tiny plane back to Moline.

The day started at 10:30 a.m. (PST) and the team grabbed their bags at 10:45 p.m. (CDT) only to walk outside and have no bus there to pick them up. It was set up to have Dex Tours pick the Steamwheelers up at the airport between 10:45 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Well after a few phone calls, as the Quad City International Airport shut down for the night, it would be discovered that there would be no bus to pick the team up, leaving them stranded and scrambling to find a short ride across the river and back home.

Managing Owner/Operator Jim Foster and head coach Rich Ingold made more phone calls and after numerous trips in normal cars, the team and the equipment made it home safely and soundly.

After all of this headache, Ingold decided to give the team Monday off and will resume their preparation for their upcoming game against the Peoria Pirates Tuesday night at 5 p.m. at BGB Sports Complex.
