Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss â The Xplorers suffered another tough setback with a 53-42 loss to the Florida Firecatz on Saturday night at the DCC. Memphis QB Rod Robinson threw for 243 yards and four TDs in the loss. The Xplorers are home this Saturday, May 3rd, to battle the Tulsa Talons. STELLAR PLAY CONTINUES
· Kevin Prentiss continues his stellar debut season with the Xplorers. He had five catches for 99 yards and two TDS in a 53-42 loss to Florida on Saturday. Prentiss' name dots the top ten offensive lists in af2. He is fifth with 60 points scored, tied for seventh with 7.25 catches per game and fourth with 107.8 yards per game.
HERE COMES THE HEAT
· Xplorers defensive lineman Anthony Bonner is currently tied for fourth in af2 with 3.0 sacks. Bonner has been held with out a sack in back-to-back games.
STICKY FINGERS
· Xplorers defensive specialist Kevin Cobb has three interceptions in four games this season. Cobb is currently tied for third in af2 in picks.
GET THAT OUT OF HERE
· Xplorers defensive specialists Kevin Cobb and Keith Spann currently rank first and second respectively in passes defended. Cobb has batted away 14, while Spann has knocked down 13.
CALLING THE SHOTS
· Xplorers' QB Rod Robinson has climbed into the top ten in af2 QB ratings. Robinson currently ranks sixth with a rating of 110.6. Robinson threw for 297 yards two weeks ago against Tulsa and followed it up with a 243 yard performance against Florida this past Saturday.
FLORIDA 53 - MEMPHIS 42 - 4/26/03 - SATURDAY
Canion Lamb had six TD catches as he led the Florida Firecatz to a 53-42 victory over the Memphis Xplorers. With the win the Firecatz improved to 2-2, while Memphis dropped to 1-3. The Xplorers came into the game ranked fourth in af2 in scoring defense, but the Firecatz moved the ball at will. Florida scored on nine of 10 possessions and totaled 259 yards of total offense.
Lamb had three TD catches in each half as he finished with 11 receptions for 156 yards. Firecatz QB Bryan Sparacino went 21-33 for 232 yards and threw all six TD passes to Lamb before leaving with an injury in the fourth quarter.
Adrian Burnette led the Xplorers' attack. Burnette had seven catches for 60 yards and one TD. Kevin Prentiss had 99 yards receiving on five catches for two TDs. QB Rod Robinson was 21-32 for 243 yards and four TDs.
The Xplorers had a chance late in the game, but Roy Stabler intercepted a Robinson pass in the end zone with less than two minutes to play and Florida marched to the game clinching field goal. The Xplorers have lost 14 of their last 16 games dating back to last season.
