Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
August 9, 2006, (Davenport, IA) - Larry Bush, majority partner/operator of the Quad City Steamwheelers, announced today that the Steamwheelers had decided not to renew the contract of head coach Rick Frazier and to start an immediate search for his replacement.
"This was an extremely difficult decision for our operating group to reach," said Bush. "However, we felt it was in the best interest of the franchise to go in a new direction and we have started our search for a new head coach, effective immediately."
Frazier, was the hired on October 7, 2004 as the third coach in Quad City Steamwheelers history. Under his two seasons at the helm, the Steamwheelers set many individual and team records. Nevertheless, the team struggled in the win/loss column under his watch with a 16-17 overall record, including a first round playoff loss in 2005.
"I view Rick as a good friend," said Bush. "That only made this decision tougher, but it was a business decision. I cannot speak highly enough about what coach Frazier has brought to this organization and community. But after a careful reflection on the past two seasons, I determined that in order to bring a championship back to the Quad Cities, this was the decision that had to be made."
The team has already started a search for a new head coach. There is no deadline set for when a new coach will be hired.
"We realize that time is of the essence in naming a new head coach," said Bush. "However, we understand the importance of finding the right person and therefore we have no self-imposed deadline for naming our new coach."
The franchises' previous head coaches were Frank Haege (2000-2001) and Rich Ingold (2002-2004).
