Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
(Moline, Ill.) - The Quad City Steamwheelers are preparing for their 10th Anniversary season that promises to be exciting with championship caliber football and a serious commitment to the community as they announce several events and appearances planned over the next few weeks.
"This was the concept our new owners had when they joined the Steamwheelers as operators of our team," said Shawn Brown, team Vice President, and GM. "They wanted to have a stronger relationship with the community, a larger ownership contingency from the community, and be more involved with the community. That is why the decision to do so many events was an easy one."
The Steamwheelers will participate in several parades starting on Sunday, October 19th in the Moline Halloween parade. They will also enter the Bettendorf Halloween parade on October 25th, and the coveted Davenport Halloween parade on October 31st. Then in November, the Steamwheelers will be a part of the annual Festival of Trees Holiday parade on November 22nd for the first time in several years.
"Everybody loves a parade and it is a great way to get involved and do something fun with the Quad Cities," continued Brown. "Our ownership group is very passionate about our team and they are committed to doing whatever it takes to be successful both on and off the field. Many members of our ownership group are doing all of the work on these parades which helps our staff out immensely as well. I'm excited because we've never had that before and it makes our organization more effective."
In addition to the parades, the Steamwheelers are launching their 2009 Mini-Wheelers season on October 18th with the Moline Parks and Recreation department. Kids can still sign up by calling the Steamwheelers or register online at www.steamwheelers.com.
On Wednesday, October 22nd the Steamwheelers will be hosting their first annual "Happy Hour" starting at 5:30 PM in their team offices. Pizza and beverage will be free courtesy of Tailgaters Pizza in Moline. "We feel this is a great opportunity for the community and our fans to get to know the staff, our new operators, and get the latest on the team, or get answers to questions regarding group and season tickets," explained Brown.
On Saturday, October 25th at the OS Sports Complex (Bubble), the Steamwheelers will hold their first open tryout for the 2009 season. Players interested in trying out need to call the team office at (309) 797-8500 or they can register online at the team's website. This event is open-to-the-public so fans can watch for free as we start recruiting for 2009.
Then on Sunday, October 26th at Southpark Mall, the Steamwheelers will be in front of Campustown to hand out candy in the Mall's annual Trick-or-Treat starting at 4:00 PM.
In addition to these events, the Steamwheelers are also launching their 2nd annual STEAMWork program where players engage with and mentor area youth as well as provide assistance towards other community-based organizations and their causes.
To learn more about other Steamwheelers appearances or how the team can help with other community-related events, call the team office at (309) 797-8500.
