Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa. - The Quad City Steamwheelers today announced that, in conjunction with the PGA Tour's 35th annual John Deere Classic to be held this week at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., they will offer a special half price ticket to the tournament's final round on Sunday to any person holding a Steamwheelers ticket from the previous night's game against the Green Bay Blizzard. At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, the Steamwheelers (6-6) will look to extend their winning streak to three games when they take on the Blizzard (8-4) at OS Field at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Anybody who attends this game can then take their ticket stub to the front gate of the Classic and receive an all day pass, which normally sells for $26, for a discounted price of $13, with the difference being donated to the local Gilda's Club of the Quad Cities to help the fight against breast cancer.
"It's important to us to recognize all of the things in the Quad Cities that we are proud of such as the Steamwheelers," John Deere Classic Tournament Director Clair Peterson said. "So having a Steamwheelers home game during tournament week, we, along with (Steamwheelers Managing Owner) Jim Foster, came up with the idea of co-promoting the Saturday night Steamwheeler game and then allowing people who went to that to come to the John Deere Classic at half price on Sunday, and knowing that the other half of that money would be going to charity was something that the tournament would benefit from, the community would benefit from and we're excited about it."
All week long, Gilda's Club and the John Deere Classic will be promoting the charitable group's "Think Pink" initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer issues. Gilda's Club hopes to raise upwards of $100,000 through this fundraiser and the Steamwheelers are committed to doing their part by offering these discounted tickets "This is the first time since 2002 that we have held a home game on the same weekend as the John Deere Classic, so it only made sense to our organization to try and tie these two fantastic events in together," said Steamwheelers Vice President of Sales and Marketing Shawn Brown . "Everybody with John Deere and the PGA Tour, as well as the tournament directors and officials have been wonderful with their support of the Steamwheelers and we are all very proud to be able to help out an organization such as the Gilda's Club."
Following Saturday night's home game against the Blizzard, the 'Wheelers will next be home seven days later when they host the Amarillo Dusters at 7:30 p.m. at OS Field at The MARK of the Quad Cities in what will be the final regular season home game of the year for the Steamwheelers. Tickets for this game are on sale now. To purchase group tickets or for more information about the Steamwheelers, call the Steamwheelers office at (563) 324-4888 or toll free at 1-866-STEAMTIX. For single game tickets please call or visit The MARK of the Quad Cities box office or any TicketMaster location.
