San Diego Riptide News Release

SAN DIEGO - The Riptide were assigned quarterback Jorade (Joe) Jackson from the league office today. The 6'6", 240 pound left hander joins the ‘Tide after spending time with the Arkansas Twisters and the Quad City Steamwheelers.

"He's still learning the offense," said Coach Ponder, "but after his first day of practice, he looks pretty impressive."

Jackson played for the Essen Cardinals of the German Football League during the 2003-2004 season, where he led the league in passing with 10 touchdowns in less than a full season with the team. The previous year, he helped the Carolina Cowboys of the NAFL (North American Football League) to an undefeated 12-0 record with 37 passing touchdowns and nearly 4,300 passing yards, both league highs. He attended Florida A&M where he saw limited action.

The Riptide's prolific quarterback, Kane Claunch, went down with an MCL sprain against the Rio Grande Valley Dorados in Week 12. Last week's bye allowed Claunch to rest his knee and he is confident he will return to the field soon. He has been practicing this week with a knee brace.

"Claunch looks pretty good and has been able to step into his throws," said Ponder. "He's a little sore and swollen. We need to figure out how long his knee will be able to hold up."

In other roster moves, the Riptide activated linemen Chris Enneking and Jimmy Williams from injured reserve and placed FB/LB Brandon Hall on short-term injured reserve with an ankle injury.
