Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Quad City Steamwheelers have had some quality football players in their day. A total of 86 men have worn a Steamwheelers game jersey in the Steamwheelers four-year history in the arenafootball2 league.

Among the 86 are: 18 players who are currently in training camp with an Arena Football League (AFL) team; 32 players who have played more than one season with the Steamwheelers; 63 colleges and universities are represented; and players ranging in size from 5'6" 160 lbs. to 6'6" 335 lbs. All in all, the Steamwheelers have had just about everything.

The Steamwheelers have had a variety of talent come through the Quad Cities. Dicken, King, Zimmerman, Gooch, Anthony and Browner have all had their names on a Steamwheelers jersey.

All of the above names have gone on to, or are currently striving for, AFL experience. All of the players who have donned a Steamwheelers jersey that are currently on an AFL training camp roster are (in alphabetical order): Mitch Allner (Austin Wranglers), Chris Anthony (New York Dragons), Jason Berger (New Orleans VooDoo), Brent Browner (Austin Wranglers), Frank Carter (Las Vegas Gladiators), Cornelius Coe (Los Angeles Avengers), Billy Dicken (Detroit Fury), Ira Gooch (New Orleans VooDoo), Jeff Hewitt (Dallas Desperados), Shon King (Philadelphia Soul), Jay McDonagh (Colorado Crush), Tim McGill (New York Dragons), Sean McNamara (Los Angeles Avengers), Dennison Robinson (Las Vegas Gladiators), Frank Trentadue (Arizona Rattlers), Jamarr Ward (Austin Wranglers), Jeremy Wilkinson (Las Vegas Gladiators), and Tony Zimmerman (Indiana Firebirds).

Of the 63 colleges and universities represented, Iowa is the name that is found the most, as it is found ten times with Corey Brown (2000-03), Tony Burrier (2003), Raj Clark (2002), Derrick Davison (2002-03), Tim Dodge (2003-04), Eddie Gibson (2000), Brion Hurley (2000-01), O.J. Payne (2003), Eric Thigpen (2002-03), and Pete Traynor (2003) all graduating from the nearby Iowa City, Iowa campus.

The shortest and lightest player to play for the Steamwheelers was 5'6" 160 lbs. Quarnail Arnold, who played in 2002 for the Steamwheelers. The tallest was 6'6" Michael Schaefer (2003-03) and the heaviest was 335 lbs. Jamarr Ward (2000-01).

The player who has been with the Steamwheelers the longest is current Steamwheelers FB/LB Josh Fourdyce. Fourdyce, who has been with the Steamwheelers since the beginning, will be entering his fifth season in 2004.

The Steamwheelers have dressed nine defensive specialists, 12 fullback/linebackers, five kickers, 23 offensive/defensive linemen, six offensive specialists, 11 quarterbacks, 11 wide receiver/defensive backs and nine wide receiver/linebackers.

The most popular jersey worn was jersey No. 9, which has been worn by five different players. The second most popular number was a tie between No.'s 3, 6, and 7. All three of those numbers have been worn four times by four different players. There have been 29 jerseys that have only been worn once and 46 numbers have never been worn.

So as the 2004 Fifth Anniversary season grows nearer, looking back on the first four years has brought out some Did You Knows? So for now, you can know.

(Below is the complete all-time roster).

The Steamwheelers are in full swing and preparing for their Fifth Anniversary season, which begins on the first weekend in April. Season tickets are currently on sale, starting as low as $54. Fans looking to purchase season tickets may contact Steamwheelers Director of Ticket Sales Brian Forth at 563-324-4888 or toll free at 1-866-STEAMTIX.
