St. Louis Steamers News Release

Backup Keeper Bayard Elfvin Earns Goalkeeper of the Week Award: For the second time this season, Steamers backup goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin wins the MISL's Goalkeeper of the Week Award. This came following his 15 save performance and win against the Chicago Storm on Sunday (Mar. 19th) afternoon with a final of 4-2. Elfvin was giving regular starter, Brett Phillips, a night off following his win the previous night against Philadelphia. Elfvin was tested early and often by the Storm offense and made five saves in the opening quarter. He would later go on to match that by making five more saves in the final quarter when the Storm were trying to put together a come back. Elfvin also won the award back on Dec. 12th.

Steamers Weekend Sweep is a Season First: For the first time this season, the St. Louis Steamers swept two games during the same weekend on consecutive nights. Three other times this season, the Steamers split those chances, until their 7-3 win in Philadelphia Saturday night, and their 4-2 victory in Chicago Sunday afternoon. They will get another chance this weekend when they take on the Milwaukee Wave in a home-and-home series this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game will be played at Savvis while Sunday's match-up will take place at Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena.

It Remains Home Sweet Home: The Steamers still enjoy the only perfect record at home in the Major Indoor Soccer League this season. So far, the Steamers are 11-0 at Savvis with four more home games remaining on the schedule. Their next home game is Saturday, March 25th against the Milwaukee Wave. It's an afternoon start at 1:05 p.m. The closest margin of victory was a 9-7 win over the Baltimore Blast on Feb. 20th. As far as the defense at home goes, the team gives up less than 3 goals per game while scoring over 7 goals per game on offense.

Steamers in the Playoffs: The Steamers continue to wait and see who they will face in the first round of the Major Indoor Soccer League Championship Series. The series will consist of the top four teams in the final standings with the first place team taking on the fourth place team in the opening round. If the series began today, the Steamers would be taking on the Chicago Storm, with the Steamers choosing which city the series will start in. With the Steamers taking on the second place Milwaukee Wave twice this weekend, it could determine who Steamers will play come mid-April.

Reiniger is Closing in on Milestone: Joe Reiniger's knee kept him out of action this weekend, keeping him only one goal away from scoring his 600th career professional indoor goals for a career. He is currently at 599 goals. Being from the St. Louis area, he would like to be able to do it at home. He scored a goal in the Steamers' 8-5 loss Mar. 3rd, inching him even closer to the milestone. It was his first goal since Jan. 29th against the California Cougars.

The Week Ahead: After a successful back-to-back road trip in Philly and Chicago last weekend, the Steamers return home to take on the second place Milwaukee Wave on Saturday afternoon, only to turn around and travel to Milwaukee to take on the Wave once again on Sunday afternoon. It will be the first, and only, home-and-home series of the season, with both games taking place during the same weekend. Going into the games, the Steamers will hold a two-and-a-half games lead over the Wave at the top of the MISL standings. These games could have a huge impact on home-field advantage for the MISL Championship Series.
