Steamers Keeper Receives MISL Goalkeeper of the Week

March 20, 2006 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers' goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin earned the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week honors after his stellar performance this weekend against the Chicago Storm Sunday afternoon. Stopping 15 of 17 shots against the Storm offense, Elfvin helped the Steamers improve their overall record to 19-5 and continue to lead the second place Milwaukee Wave by two-and-a-half games.

Elfvin, a 25 year old Cleveland Heights, OH native, is the backup goalkeeper to MISL All-Star Brett Phillips and would lead the MISL in many key goalkeeping statistics if it was not for his lack of playing time. Bayard has only 198 minutes logged this season but in that short amount of time he has stopped 41 out of 50 shots. Sunday's game improved his save percentage to 82.2 percent, and his goals against average to 2.72.

This was Elfvin's first start since January 29th when the Steamers defeated the California Cougars. Elfvin was forced to leave that game early in the second half because of a collision to the head with a member of the Cougars. Improving his record to 3-1 and a team overall record of 19-5, Elfvin and the rest of the Steamers are preparing for a pair of games this weekend, both against the Milwaukee Wave. The first will take place at Savvis Center on Saturday (Mar. 25th) at 1:05 p.m. The following day (Mar. 26th), they will travel to Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena at 1:05 p.m. for a rematch with the Wave.
