Steamers Travel for Two Games this Weekend

March 16, 2006 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The first place St. Louis Steamers will pick up their bags and travel this weekend to take on the Philadelphia KiXX and the Chicago Storm. The first game of the weekend will be on Saturday, March 18th at 6:05 versus the KiXX at the Wachovia Spectrum. Next, the Steamers will travel to Chicago to take on the Storm at the UIC Pavilion on Sunday (March 19th) afternoon at 4:00.

The KiXX are the only remaining team in the Major Indoor Soccer League to have not defeated the Steamers so far this season. St. Louis is a perfect 4-0 and took the last game in Philly in overtime thanks to a game-winning goal from defender D.J. Newsom. These two teams played last Saturday at Savvis Center with the Steamers winning with a final of 5-2. The collective defensive performance earned goalkeeper Brett Phillips the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week.

The Sunday match-up pits St. Louis in Chicago for the first time since they were defeated there, 6-4 back on Jan. 8th. That was also played on a day after a trip to Philadelphia. That loss was the one and only time this season that the Steamers lost to the Storm. Chicago is fighting for the fourth and final spot for the MISL Championship Series. Going into this weekend, the Storm lead the KiXX by three games with eight games remaining on their schedule. It's very possible that Sunday's game could be a potential first round match-up come April.

The next Steamers game at Savvis is Saturday, March 25th at 1:05 p.m. versus the Milwaukee Wave. The Wave are currently in second place in the MISL standings and are the defending MISL Champions.
